How to Make Egg Roll
Egg roll is one very simple snack you can make without an oven. It is made by wrapping boiled egg in a mass of dough and then deep frying. It is affordable, easy to prepare, and delicious.
You can pair it with a beverage or drink and have it for breakfast, lunch or as a snack. You can also serve it in your kids’ lunch pack or serve your guests during an event.
Here’s how to make this simple snack:
Ingredients for Making Egg Roll
● 4 cups of all purpose or self-rising flour
● 2 tablespoons of baking powder
● ½ teaspoon of salt
● ½ cup of sugar
● 1 teaspoon of nutmeg powder
● 4 tablespoons of margarine
● 2 eggs
● ½ cup of water
● 10 boiled eggs
Procedures
● In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking
powder, salt, sugar, and nutmeg
● Add the margarine and blend with your fingers until the mix is crumbly
● Whisk the eggs and add. Mix well The dough should look dry at this point
● Start adding the water in little bits till the dough is soft and sticky
● Mix the dough for about a minute, then cover it and let it rest for about 15 to 20 minutes
● Mix the dough again for about a minute
● Divide the dough into ten parts
● Flatten out each ball of dough on a chopping board, place the egg in the middle of the flattened dough and wrap the dough around the egg
● Deep fry on medium heat until it becomes golden brown on both sides

How to Make Puff Puff
Puff puff is a very popular snack on the streets of Nigeria and even Africa as a whole. It is easy and simple to make and can be made without an oven.
It is made from yeast dough. The yeast dough is shaped into balls and deep-fried until golden brown. It can be eaten as a snack or main meal when paired with a beverage or cereal.
It can also be served on occasions as small chops. Over the years, people have modified the original recipe of puff puff to give different delicious variations.
There’s the coconut puff puff; made by substituting milk or water for coconut milk. There’s also the chocolate puff puff; made by adding cocoa powder to the list of dry ingredients.
And there’s the banana puff puff; made by substituting sugar for mashed ripe bananas. Any of these variations or the basic recipe will give you a sumptuous snack. So don’t hesitate to give it a try.
Here’s how to make puff puff using the basic ingredients:
Ingredients for Making Puff Puff
● 4 cups of all purpose or self-rising
flour ● ½ cup of sugar
● 20 grams of yeast
● Salt
● Lukewarm water
● Vegetable oil
● ½ teaspoon of nutmeg powder
● 1 egg (optional)
● Milk (optional)
● Fresh or ground pepper (optional)
● 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
Procedures
● In a large bowl, mix the flour with salt
● Add the sugar, nutmeg powder and yeast. Mix well
● Add the pepper and mix well
● Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix well
● If you’re using milk, it’ll substitute for water. Warm the milk a bit and add to the bowl. The milk or water needs to be warm to activate the yeast
● Mix the batter well and cover with a towel
● Keep in a warm place and let it sit for an hour. This is to allow the batter rise i.e till it doubles in size and has bubbles on top
● Pour enough vegetable oil into your fry pan or wok (puff puff needs a lot of oil to fry) and allow to heat
● Scoop the batter into the oil and deep fry on medium heat until it is golden brown
● Flip to the other side and fry
● Remove and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil

How to Make Fish Roll
Fish roll is another simple snack that can be made without an oven. It is a deep fried crispy snack made with fish filled dough.
The fish is cooked with seasoning and spices and then fried with vegetables that make up the filling. Here’s how to make fish roll:
Ingredients for Making Fish Roll
● 4 cups of all purpose or self-rising flour
● 200 grams of margarine
● 2 eggs
● 2 teaspoons of baking powder
● 1 teaspoon of salt
● Seasoning cube
● 2 tablespoons of sugar
● 1 cup of water
● 1 fresh whole mackerel fish
● 2 medium sized carrots
● 2 bulbs of onion
● Spices (garlic powder or crushed garlic, curry, thyme, ground pepper
● Vegetable oil
Procedures
● Season the fish with onion, salt, seasoning cube and spices
● Add some water and boil until it is well cooked
● Separate the fish from the stock, debone and mash with a fork
● Wash and grate the carrots
● Heat two tablespoons of
vegetable oil, add chopped onions and garlic powder and fry
● Add the grated carrot, mashed fish, seasoning cube, salt and spices
● Stir fry for a few seconds until the flavors are combined. Turn off the heat and allow to cool
● In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt
● Add the margarine and mix until it is crumbly
● Whisk the egg, add and mix thoroughly
● Add water gradually until it forms a
dough ● Transfer the dough to a work surface and knead for about 3 minutes until it is smooth and firm
● Cover the dough and let it rest for about 5 minutes
● Place the dough back on the work surface and cut out a bit
● Roll out the cut dough with a rolling pin until it’s
flat then cut to form a rectangular shape
● Add the fish filling, roll the dough and seal it tightly
● Repeat the process for the remaining dough and set aside
● Heat the vegetable oil and fry the rolls until brown and crispy
● Enjoy with preferred drink
How to Make Scotch Eggs
Scotch egg, another simple snacks that can be made without an oven, is somewhat similar to egg roll. However, instead of wrapping the boiled eggs in dough, it is wrapped in sausage or minced meat.
The sausage or minced meat is garnished with different spices like curry, thyme and ground pepper. This gives it a very unique and delicious taste and flavour.
You’re free to add or remove spices to suit your preference or dietary restrictions. Scotch egg can be served during events or picnics, accompanied with drinks.
Here’s how to prepare scotch egg:
Ingredients for Making Scotch Eggs
● 6 eggs
● ½ teaspoon of salt
● Vegetable oil
● Seasoning cube
● Bread crumbs
● 1 cup of all purpose flour
● 500 grams of sausage or minced meat
● Spices (nutmeg powder, garlic, curry, thyme, ground pepper)
Procedures
● Boil 5 of the eggs, peel and set aside
● In a bowl, add the sausage or minced meat, seasoning cube, salt and spices. Mix well
● Get three other bowls, add the breadcrumbs, flour and remaining egg into the plates
● Take one boiled egg, place it in the flour to get it coated
● Then place it in the sausage or minced meat mix
● Then coat it with the beaten egg and then the breadcrumbs. Set aside and repeat the process for the remaining four eggs
● Heat the vegetable oil and fry the coated eggs until golden brown
● Serve with preferred drink
