Understanding and mitigating the top 10 failures that candidates often encounter in JAMB is essential for success in the 2024/2025 academic year.
When You take all these reasons to heart, success will be chasing you even before you write your exams.
Inability To Pick The Right Course
Failure will mount on you immediately you fail to pick the course of your passion.
I will explain this elaborately.
Let me share you a story.
“When I was about to take my first JAMB, my parents wanted me to study Medicine and Surgery.
In fact, because my name was Owolabi, they were calling me the next Dr Owolabi.
I never really liked biology but was pretty doing well with calculation courses.
Of course, the name got into my head, and I started imagining myself as Dr owolabi.
I wrote my first JAMB with struggle and trust me it wasn’t easy.
To cut the long story short, I didn’t gain entrance into school that year.
But of course, I bounced back and I used my two left hands to fill MERICINE yet again (lol).
Don’t think I mi-spelt that oh, It is intentional.
My second JAMB was the worst JAMB i will ever write in my whole life scoring below 170.
It was really that bad.
But then I had to forget my parents wish as that was not my drive”.
This time I filled my choice of course and trust me, I got admitted into UNIBEN to study one of the most demanding engineering courses [Mechanical Engineering].
Once you are living another person’s life or wish, you are living to fail.
Avoid this and look for a course that really motivates you and drives you to be successful.
Not Knowing The Right Subject Combination For Your Course
In fact, this is the worst mistake you can ever make as a JAMB 2024 UTME candidate.
The same year I was writing my JAMB, a student cried out of the hall because; just like electric shock, she was surprised at the subjects she saw on Judgement Day.
If you don’t know the right subject combination for your course, it’s as good as not writing the exam itself.

Procrastination
There is still time of course is always the song when JAMB exam is 7 months away.
Procrastination is describe as the thief of time.
Procrastination is like a credit card; it’s a lot of fun until you get the bill.
Everyday spent procrastinating is another day spent worrying about that thing. Do it now and move on with your life.
Therefore, procrastination usually results in sorrowful regret.
Today’s duties put off until tomorrow give us a double burden to bear.
The best way is to do them in their proper time.
The earlier you begin preparation for JAMB 2024, the more success you will smell.
Neglecting Your JAMB Syllabus
Every year, JAMB releases a new syllabus and gives to their candidates at the point of registration.
However, a lot of students still fail to use their syllabus to the letter.
It will be quiet unfortunate for you to get to the hall and see different questions entirely.
According to research, 98% of students who follow their JAMB syllabus score 250 and above in JAMB exams.
Therefore where does that leave us?.
You must ensure you follow your JAMB syllabus to the letter.
Consume each topic on the syllabus and make sure you answer questions on every topic elaborately.
This will make you avoid studying topics you won’t find on the JAMB syllabus.
Poor Study Methods
Writing JAMB 3 times taught me a lot of lessons.
But of course you should not go through same before you learn the ropes.
As a JAMB candidate, if you must make it, you must ensure that you study properly without distractions.
A lot of students do not know how to focus when studying.
Let me give you a little motivation.
Last time, over 1 million students registered for JAMB 2024 and guess what on 20% of that total got their dream course.
If you don’t study properly, the seeds will be separated from the chaffs on judgement day.

Do well to study them to the letter.
You don’t Simply Understand What You Have Read
If you are in this category, I understand how you feel.
But of course, that’s why you are here and reading this right now.
Studying without understanding can be frustrating, trust me.

Taking Torch Light Phone To The Hall And Expecting A beep
You heart will fail you immediately you discover that all your plans does not work.
Moreover, even if it does, there is high probability of failing woefully.
JAMB has over the years been trying to curb the issue of examination malpractice.
This was the major reason why they switched completely from the PPT to the CBT, but it still persisted.
In fact, what you should know is that expecting answers on judgement day kills your confidence totally.
Some students actually study well for the exam but decide to pay one JAMB runs guy to assist with answers as a backup plan.
Immediately you rely on it as much as little, you have failed.
Dear friends, do not fix your gaze on this very highly inefficient way.
Work hard until lamp light of your study table becomes spotlight of stage.
It may be hard but focus on studying, believe me, it’s going to be worth it.
JAMB has begun to implement new methods to curb malpractice.
You Don’t Have The Necessary Materials
This can poise as a very big problem to students in the long run.
Some students will just entirely neglect study materials and buy just past question and cram.
This is very bad as you will live to tell the bad story.
When you don’t have the necessary materials thereby resulting to cramming past questions, when there is a tweak in any question, there is a high tendency that you will fail.
Therefore, ensure you read to understand and leave out cramming at this stage.

Not Registering JAMB On Time
This was one of the reason’s that contributed to the woeful failure of my 2nd JAMB.
I didn’t register when my mates were still registering.
I registered late and of course I was given what I deserved.
This made me to find myself in at OGUN state instead of my own state Edo State.
It is either this happens to you or your are thrown to an inefficient center that are usually not equipped.
One must work with time and not against it.
Time is free but priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it.
You can’t keep it, but you can spend it and most importantly, when you have lost it, you can never get it back.
Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Do not be surprised it had to stretch that.
Speed is very paramount when it comes to any exam most especially JAMB 2018.
But however, before you can use the concept of speed, you must have built yourself to conform to it.
You don’t just see questions and start answering them. There must have been processes you need to undergo before you can fall under the speed category.
If you have studied JAMB questions very well, you will discover that you need to answer 250 questions in less than 3 hours.
If you were to calculate that, you will discover that you need less than 1 minutes 30 seconds for a question.
Therefore, how do you achieve this?
You must practice as it is practice that makes perfect.
Study effectively and use past questions to test your speed.
Other Reasons why you may fail JAMB 2018 are;
Setting a low target score for yourself.
You will see some candidates saying ” JAMB is simple oh [of course it truly is], if I score 50 in each of the four subjects, I will get a total of 200.
This is the major reason why people do not get their dream course.
It is always safer to set a high target so that even if you fail it should be because you didn’t score the complete 400 mark.

- Failure to get all of your required and necessary documents and print out ready
- Having little or no knowledge of a computer. Go and learn how to handle a mouse.
- Not being attentive on judgement day.
- Finding yourself in blacklisted centers.
- Not using past questions to your advantage
- Not being properly informed.
These are the top reasons why you may fail JAMB this year, therefore endeavor to avoid them.
