The deadly sins were a popular theme in the morality plays, literature, and art of the Middle Periods in Europe.

According to Christian tradition the seven deadly sins are covetousness, gluttonousness, rapacity or mercenariness, lust, pride, idleness, and wrath. You can find a list and meanings of the seven deadly sins below.

1. Lust

The Bible speaks about lust in 2 Timothy 222, “ Flee also immature lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love (and) peace.”

The Bible also mentions lust in the following verses Job 311, Matthew 528, Philippians 48, James 114-15, 1 Peter 211 and 1 John 216.

Chastity or tone- control cures lust by controlling passion and using that energy for the good of others.

2. Gluttony

1 Corinthians 1031 says, “ Thus, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

3. Greed

The Bible says the following in Hebrews 135, “ Let your conduct be without covetousness; be happy with similar effects as you have. For He Himself has said,  ‘I’ll no way leave you nor leave you. ’”

5. Wrath

The Bible speaks about wrath in Romans 1219, “ Beloved, noway retaliate yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it’s written,‘ Revenge is mine, I’ll repay, says the Lord. ’”
