Department of Health Kwa Zulu Natal Learnerships Requirements

Candidates wishing to pursue a career within the health industry and wanting to partake in a learnership offered by this Department will need to meet all stipulations as requested. This Department prefers candidates aged between 18 and 35. All documentation must be certified and certification has been done within a maximum of three months prior to the application.

Applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of South African
  • Be in possession of a valid ID document
  • Hold a valid Matric / Grade 12 certificate
  • Stay within the area they are applying in
  • Be unemployed
  • Be proficient in English, read, write and speak
  • With Life Science and Biology subjects is preferred
  • Be computer literate

Department of Health Kwa Zulu Natal Learnerships Application

Online Applications are not available. The Department application forms can be collected at the Government hospital nearest to where candidates stay and also returned there. For more information visit the Department of Health Kwa-Zulu Natal online.

The application must be fully completed and then returned with the appropriate records and certification as is stipulated in the advertisement. Each learnership advertised will be for acceptance by selected candidates to start the following year. Successful applicants will also be required to sign a contract with the Department.

All documentation and the application must be signed, certified and submitted before the closing date. Applications must not be given or delivered to any of the hospitals, clinics or nursing colleges in this area. Interested individuals must please read the advertisement carefully and follow it precisely.

This Department receives a great number of applications each year, thus, they cannot respond to all. The Department will only contact selected candidates. If you have not heard anything within three months from the closing date, please accept that your application was unsuccessful. Candidates who have been part of this program previously will not be considered again. Applications received late, incomplete or that are missing any of the requested documentation will not be looked at.

This learnership program offered by the Department is usually for a four-year period. Applicants must ensure they certify all documentation. Verification of documents, address and experience will be done. Candidates who make the shortlist will be obligatory to complete a medical examination and also a security verification.

Department of Health Kwa Zulu Natal Learnerships Closing Date

Interested candidates can submit their applications to this Department before August yearly for learnership programs the following year. What does a learner receive on completion?

During the learnership, learners will be required to complete assignments, tasks and practical tests and projects. They will be formally assessed in the classroom and workplace.

If all these assignments are completed successfully, they will be awarded an NQF-registered qualification, that is recognised nationally. They will receive a certificate stating the qualification and the area of skill development.

What is required to enter into a learnership?

If you are accepted you will need to sign two legal documents:

1. Learnership Agreement: this is an agreement signed by you, the organisation employing you, and the education and provider offering the theoretical training component of the learnership. This agreement clearly outlines the rights and responsibilities of all three parties.

2. Employment contract: this is a contract you will sign with the employ er, which is only valid for the time period of the learnership.

Will I get a job after completing the learnership?

Employment is not guaranteed, but once you have successfully completed your learnership, you will be in a much better position to market yourself as you will now have both work experience and theoretical training. You may also be in a better position to start your own business and generate an income that way.

Can a learnership be terminated ?

Yes, a learnership can be terminated under certain circumstances:

An employer can terminate the contract of a learnership if:

  • The duration specified in the learnership agreement has expired;
  • The employer and learner have agreed in writing to terminate the learnership agreement, or if there is no such agreement, the SETA t hat registered the agreement approves the termination; or
  • The learner is fairly dismissed for a reason related to the learners conduct or capacity as an employee.

Who is eligible for a learnership?

Learnerships are available for young people who have completed school, college or learning at other training institutions. You must be older than 16 and younger than 35 to be eligible for a learnership. Unemployed South Africans can only participate in a learnership if there is an employer prepared to provide the required work experience.
