Overview of the Charles R. Wall Young African Policy Fellows Program

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) have joined forces to create a program that focuses on training the next generation of policymakers. The Charles R. Wall Young African Policy Fellows Program is a nine-month journey that immerses you in the world of biodiversity governance in Africa. The program resonates with the African Union Agenda 2063, “The Africa We Want,” which highlights the crucial role of nature and biodiversity in the continent’s sustainable development.

  • Fully Funded Fellowship: This program covers air travel to and from your home country, ground transportation for workshops in Nairobi, and attendance at a policymaking conference.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Passion for Biodiversity: A demonstrated interest in biodiversity and related sectors.
  • African Nationality: Open to nationals of African countries, residing and working in Africa.
  • Age and Educational Background: Between 20-35 years, holding at least a first university degree in relevant fields. Relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Experience: Two years of experience in biodiversity conservation or management.
  • Commitment: Ability to attend the full course, travel for conferences, and support negotiators.

Program Accessibility

The program welcomes francophone candidates but requires basic English skills as some materials may be translated.
