Bristol University in the UK is offering Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships for Early Career Researchers in 2024.

The University of Bristol is delighted to offer Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships for the year 2019. Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships scheme offers an exciting opportunity for exceptional early-career researchers to advance their research careers and support our strategic priorities.

These prestigious awards aim to nurture the potential of early-career researchers.

The University of Bristol is a red brick research university located in Bristol, United Kingdom. It received its royal charter in 1909, although like the University of the West of England and the University of Bath, it first started as the Merchant Venturers Navigation School in 1595.

Scholarship Description

  • Applications Deadline: January
  • Course Level: Fellowships are available for early career researchers.
  • Study Subject: Within the Digital Innovation priority area we welcome applicants that reflect our current key strategic areas. These include digital and civic futures, and digital humanities, scientific computation and big data in science. Fellowships are available across our strategic priorities, with a particular focus on Health and Wellbeing and Digital Innovation.
  • Scholarship Award: Benefits include:
  1. For research focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) disciplines a competitive salary starting from £43,267 depending on experience, and a four-year fixed-term contract.
  2. For research focused on Humanities, Arts and Social Science (HASS) disciplines a competitive salary starting from £37,345 and a two-year fixed-term contract.
  3. Access to start-up funds, £5,000 per year in HASS disciplines and £10,000 per year in STEMM disciplines.
  4. The opportunity to pursue your own programme of individual (or collaborative) research.
  5. Mentoring and one-to-one monthly supervision from your Fellowship Sponsor.
  • Nationality: Fellowships are available for International students.
  • Number of Scholarships: Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships are aimed at early-career researchers, this year we are offering:
  1. Nine: four-year fellowships for those researching primarily in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics subjects with normally three-seven years’ experience post PhD or equivalent.
  2. Four: two-year fellowships for those researching primarily in Humanities, Arts and Social Science disciplines with normally zero-three years’ experience post PhD or equivalent.
  • Scholarship can be taken in the UK

Eligibility for the Scholarship

Eligible Countries: Fellowships are available for International students.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Suitable candidates will have:

  • A PhD in a relevant field or equivalent;
  • Started to establish a reputation for top quality research;
  • Strong leadership qualities and an enthusiasm for developing skills in teaching, leadership, impact development and engagement;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from internal and external candidates, including individuals who have taken a career break due to maternity, paternity, adoption leave, illness or other exceptional circumstances.

Candidates with an existing permanent academic position are considered to have achieved the aims of the scheme and will not be eligible to apply.

2. Complete the ‘project proposal’ section of the proforma and email it to your proposed sponsor, along with your CV, requesting that they:

  • Support your application by completing the ‘letter of support’ section on page five of the proforma;
  • Obtain a signature of approval from the relevant head of school.

3. Apply online for one of the following vacancies:

  • Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships focused in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics
  • Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships focused in Humanities, Arts and Social Science
  • Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowships focused on Young People’s Mental Health

4. You will need to upload the following supporting documents:

  • Please merge your academic CV and your covering letter into one document (and upload to the ‘covering letter’ section of the application);
  • Please upload the Project Proposal and Letter of Support proforma (to the ‘upload documents’ section of the application).
